We are incredibly pleased to welcome Wilma Mavea onto the Marinas Guardian team. Wilma is an extraordinarily determined and successful young marine scientist. Born in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea and raised in Port Moresby, this amazing woman earned herself a place at the University of Papua New Guinea to study marine biology, going on to win the Pidu scholarship in partnership with James Cooke University.
Most recently she was awarded the hugely prestigious Chevening scholarship under which she is currently studying her MSc in Marine Mammal Science at the University of St Andrews.
Wilma is already helping us to develop our exciting programmes in Papua New Guinea including co developing new MPAs, surveying potential polluting WW2 shipwrecks and undertaking a survey of the dugong population and their seagrass habitat. She will be a key member of our team in PNG as soon as she concludes her MSc. We are lucky to have her on board!
